Benshaw History
Benshaw was founded by four men in 1974 in the state of Pennsylvania. The name is an amalgam of the last names of two of its founders. Its first years were filled mainly with a part-time production schedule emphasizing panel manufacturing and sub-assembly. Ultimately three of the founders left to pursue other careers, leaving Mr. Bob Shaltenbrand to carry on alone. At this time it remained a one-man business as a garage shop organization.
Business carried on quietly until 1979 when Saftronics Ltd. of Canada suggested Benshaw spearhead Saftronics in the U.S. 40% of the company would fall to Benshaw ownership in exchange for which Bob Schaltenbrand would operate the U.S. Saftronics motor control manufacturing. The business quickly expanded out into new quarters and a few new employees were hired. However, the business relationship did not survive technical and operational problems and Benshaw was once again on its own. But it was apparently an auspicious occasion because subsequent years proved that Mr. Schaltenbrand was competent and able to expand Benshaw into the international business it is today.
Benshaw’s VFD Product Line
Benshaw produces a number of fine electrical power products. It offers a variety of starters, integrated power factor, line reactors and pilot and control devices as well as a line of quality variable frequency drives. For the purposes of this page only the VFD drives will be listed. As you can see, they now offer a full complement of devices from the simple micro Benshaw VFD drive to heavy industrial and wash-down versions.
